Welcome to the website of the Ashover Music Festival in Derbyshire, England, which celebrates its 28th anniversary this year.
This year the Festival focuses on masterpieces of the Austro-German classical and romantic repertoire, including Symphony no. 41 by Mozart, Strauss's first horn concerto and Wagner's Siegfried Idyll; all culminating in a performance of Beethoven's mighty 9th Symphony with the Ashover Festival Orchestra and Chorus. A guest appearance from London's Azalea Ensemble, and three new commisions from composers Phil Dawson, Ian Anderson and Martin Georgiev bring in the vibrancy of the 21st century.
We are delighted to welcome back Jessica Cottis as Artistic Director and Principal Conductor for this year's festival, and also the young American horn soloist David Smith, and singers Kate Sheppeard, Eleanor Greenwood, Raynard Blampied and Ben MacAteer.
The ancient village of Ashover is situated in the beautiful Amber Valley, nestling snugly in the picturesque countryside of wooded slopes and rocky hills. Little little cobbled lanes lead towards the village centre and the 13th-century All Saints' Church, where all concerts will be held.
On this website you will find information about this year's festival, including a full schedule of events and details about our conductor, orchestra, chorus and guest artists. You can also find out about the history of the Festival, and access an archive of programmes from previous years.
We do hope you will join us in September for what will be another spectacular few days of music-making in Ashover. Welcome to our most exciting Season ever!
